ICT Statistical Information System

Sistema de información estadístico de TIC

Observatory for the Information Society in Latin America and the Caribbean (OSILAC), http://www.cepal.org/SocInfo

The ICT Statistical Information System integrates the more than 100 household surveys of the the Latin American and Caribbean countries that contains variables about the access and the use of the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in just one application.

The System was created by the Observatory for the Information Society in Latin America and the Caribbean, and was supported by the Institute for the Connectivity in the Americas of the International Development Research Centre of Canada (IDRC). The Information System’s development and administration has been authorized by the Statistical Conference of the Americas  in its fourth meeting (Resolution on ICT statistics of the Conference, July 2007).

This section disposes of household surveys since year 2000 and contains variables on access and use of ICT. The information on ICT variables has been competed with variables on socioeconomic and demographic factors of the household surveys, life conditions surveys and multiple purposes surveys. This facilitates users to compare analyses, detect and categorize gaps in access and use between countries and in the period of time for each country.

The system allows obtaining frequency tables, cross tables and in general basic statistics and indicators by using combinations of the available and harmonized variables for every country and available year.

It is necessary mentioning that the available information in this system counts on an inestimable collaboration with the National Statistical Offices and the Social Statistics Unit of the Statistics and Economic Projection Unit of ECLAC, and in particular the team of Databases for Household Surveys BADEHOG.
